tier 5 (temporary worker – government authorised exchange) internship

The Tier 5 (Temporary Worker – Government-Authorised Exchange) Internship visa allows young foreigners to work as paid intern in the UK in the job or business categories approved by UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) for up to 12 or 24 months (depending on the scheme).

  • Visa Requirements
    For approval, you need to obtain CoS from a business or an organization with a sponsorship license.
    You should also obtain certification from the Home office that you have sufficient resources to cover your living expenses.
  • Conditions of Stay
    The visa holder may have family members accompanying him/her and may study or work part-time for up to 20 hours per week (exclusive of certain specified fields).
    This visa cannot be changed to another visa category in the UK after expiry.
    Note, however, that the visa holder may apply for Tier 1 Exceptional Talent visa or may seek permanent employment if outstanding skills or performance are demonstrated.
  • Length of Stay
    Up to two years' stay is allowed.
    The visa may be applied for two years from the initial application, or one-year extension is allowed after the initial one-year stay depending on the visa category.
